WPD: Car-deer accident near Watertown Regional Airport sends two people to Prairie Lakes

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue was called out to a car versus deer accident on Highway 20 near the airport this (Thursday) morning.

A Chevy Impala driven by a 61 year-old Twin Brooks woman struck the deer a little before 5:00 a.m. Her vehicle was disabled on the highway, and while she was on the phone calling police to report the accident, a Ford Fusion driven by a 20 year-old Watertown woman rear-ened her car.

Two ambulances were called out to assess the occupants of the vehicles.

Both drivers were taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was cited for Careless Driving.

One lane of Highway 20 was closed for about an hour while the wreckage was removed.
