WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council this week agreed to sign of a letter of intent with the North American Hockey League (NAHL) to bring a junior hockey team to the city.

The NAHL is for players who’ve graduated from high school, and want to continue playing the game in hopes of earning a college hockey scholarship, and perhaps one day turn pro.

City Attorney Matt Roby says this letter of intent is non-binding…

Mayor Ried Holien says landing a junior team has become a real possibility because of the new ice arena that’ll be built….

The NAHL is a 16-team league that includes a Central Division made up of teams in Aberdeen, Bismarck, St. Cloud and Austin, Minnesota.
