WATERTOWN, S.D.–Gruesome testimony will unfold in the days to come in a Watertown murder trial.
Jeremiah Peacemaker (pictured) is accused of killing 28 year-old Kendra Owen, who was found dead at her residence in the 300-block of North Broadway in Watertown on September 2nd, 2020.
Jury selection began today (Wednesday) in a trial that is expected to last up to two weeks.
Attorney General Marty Jackley is prosecuting the case, with assistance from the Codington County State’s Attorney’s Office…….
Peacemaker’s trial was delayed numerous times as attorneys on both sides argued what evidence should–-or should not be–admissible at trial.
Peacemaker was charged through a Grand Jury indictment with First Degree Murder, which made it a death penalty-eligible case, but Jackley chose not to seek capital punishment as a sentencing option.
If Peacemaker is convicted, the only remaining sentence would be life in prison with no chance of parole.
Investigators have characterized the relationship between Peacemaker and Owen as, “recent acquaintances” prior to Owen’s death.
