WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown School Board and the Watertown Education Association have agreed to salary modifications for certified and classified employees for the 2024-25 school year.

Here’s what Superintendent Dr. Jeff Danielsen announced in the form of a press release issued Monday:

Certified employees will receive a $2,500.00 flat increase or prorated to their percent FTE. The flat increase is a modification of a 4.37% equivalent average increase.

Administration and directors to receive a 4% equivalent increase.

The base salary for certified employees is scheduled to increase to $49,500.00.

The base salaries of Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Speech/Language Pathologists and Teacher Assistants also received modifications. This salary modification will allow the district to remain compliant with the State’s average compensation requirement that was put in place in 2016-17.

The amount paid for co-curricular activities will be increased by 4.21% and will continue under the guidance of a new schedule which has salary ranges calculated on the base salary of certified instructors.

The premium level of the district’s group health and dental insurance received increases with board contribution increasing by $128 per month per plan member.

Classified hourly and salaried employees to receive a 6% increase with the minimum base hourly wage adjusted to $15.60 per hour.

Lake Area Technical College instructors will receive modifications in line with legislative appropriations at a rate of 4%. LATC professional personnel and administration will receive 4% with classified personnel aligning increases at 6% with that proposed for K-12.

The Watertown School Board also adjusted the school calendar for the current school year. Because the district used just one snow day this winter, the school year will end one day earlier than originally scheduled. The final day of school will be May 22nd, with a 12:30 dismissal.
