WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council holds a special meeting at 3:30 this (Monday) afternoon to consider spending more money on street repairs in the city.
The council will be asked to authorize funding for Watertown’s mill and overlay projects and a street reconstruction by up to an additional $1.5 million.
City documents say the request for additional funding is due to, “unexpected cracking, which has increased the need for additional roadway repairs.”
Areas targeted for additional funding include two blocks of Broadway Street, South Lake Drive near Casino Speedway, Third Avenue and Broadway, North Maple near 10th Avenue, and the full reconstruction of 9th Street Northeast by Watertown High School.
The 9th Street Northeast project was originally scheduled for 2024, and comes with a price tag of more than $630,000, but given its deterioration over the winter, it’s proposed to be completed this year, if the contractor can accommodate that schedule.
