WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue was called out early this morning to a gas leak.

Crews were dispatched to the area of 1315 5th Avenue Southeast just before 2:30 on a report of a strong gas smell in that area.

A gas leak was determined to be underground near a new sign that had been recently installed.

Firefighters and Municipal Utilities crews checked nearby buildings for gas levels and found them to be clear of gas.

Fifth Avenue remained closed between 13th Street and 14th Street Southeast and crews were digging to remove the damaged section of gas line.

No injuries have been reported.
