WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council meets tonight to further discuss the purchase of a new armored car for the police department.

Last month, they gave the city manager the okay to sign a purchase order to acquire it, but because that piece of equipment is coming in more than $70,000 over budget, and because it’s received public criticism, the council will take another look at it.

They’ll also consider a $20,000 agreement to have asbestos removed from the former Wells Fargo Bank building in Maple Street in the downtown area.

The city bought that building for $1.3 million with the intention of renovating it into a new City Hall, but the building has sat empty since the city took ownership of it.
