WATERTOWN, S.D.–With winter approaching, the Watertown City Council held a work session Tuesday to discuss, among other things, possible changes to  Watertown’s snow removal ordinance.

There will be no change in when a snow emergency is issued, which activates snowplows. That happens during a snow event of two or more inches, and it’ll remain that way.

Currently, the Street Department plows streets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and avenues on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. But Street Superintendent Rob Beynon says while they’ll still plow all streets and then proceed to avenues, or vice versa, they won’t be restricted on what days that can be done…

What about plowing the core of the city? In other words, the downtown area???

As Beynon mentioned, the ordinance change would allow vehicles to park on boulevards during a snow emergency…

City Manager Amanda Mack talked about the changes…

Ordinance changes cannot be made during a work session, so nothing becomes official until action is taken during a regular city council meeting.
