WATERTOWN, S.D.–A fundraising group working on behalf of a new ice arena in Watertown had hoped to raise $5 million by the end of May.

They didn’t make it, but they’re still raising money, and remain confident they’ll reach their goal this summer.

KWAT News talked with Jodi Driscoll, who’s chairing the, “Build It Now Committee”…..

They hope to bridge that $2 million gap by securing some large donations…

Driscoll says larger donors will be recognized in the arena…

There are many naming rights opportunities within the arena…

The bulk of funds to build the arena will come from $20 million dollars in city sales tax revenue.

Groundbreaking on the two sheet ice arena will take place this summer or fall. It’ll be built just off Willow Creek Drive.
