Son of former Minnesota Viking sentenced for killing parents

LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. – The son of former Minnesota Viking Barry Bennett and his wife, Carol, will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his parents in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Twenty-three-year-old Dylan Bennett pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder Monday and was immediately sentenced to life without parole.

Todd County deputies discovered the bodies of Barry and Carol Bennett on August 21st, 2019. Both died of gunshot wounds two days earlier.

Prosecutors say Dylan Bennett withdrew money from his parents’ bank account and fled to Mexico where he was eventually apprehended.

Barry Bennett spent 11 seasons in the NFL with New Orleans, the New York Jets and Minnesota. At the time of his death he was a teacher and coach in Long Prairie.
