WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council approved an ordinance change Monday night on when and where snowplows will do their work in the winter.

Specifically, the change removes language related to streets and avenues being plowed on specific days of the week, and allows for vehicles to be parked on boulevards during snow emergencies, which are declared when snowfall events of two or more inches occur.

Councilman Kyle Peters supports the change…

Councilman Dan Schutte is skeptical that these changes will make plowing more efficient….

Communicating these changes so people know where they can and cannot park during a snow emergency will be key. City Manager Amanda Mack says a new position that could be coming to City Hall would be instrumental in filling that role…

The ordinance change was approved on a 6-1 vote, with Schutte voting no.
