MAHNOMEN, Minn. (KFGO) – Tornadoes caused damage Saturday in northwestern Minnesota. The National Weather Service says the Mahnomen area was one of about a half dozen spots in that part of the state with reported tornado touchdowns.

Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther says the roof of a home just east of the Mahnomen Country Club was torn off and a shed on the property partially collapsed. That tornado was rated an EF3, with sustained wind speeds between 136-160 mph. Another home had windows blown out on one side and a nearby steel outbuilding was blown into a field.

The other reported tornadoes from Saturday were likely all EF1 strength, with wind speeds between 65-85 mph.

The National Weather Service is surveying the damage in the region and is expected to release more information.
