North Dakota schools fall victim to fake threats

WATFORD CITY, N.D.–Schools in Devils Lake, Watford City, and other cities in North Dakota were victims of swatting call hoaxes Thursday.

Police in Watford City say a staff member at an elementary school received a call from someone who said there was a person outside the building with a gun.

Officers responded and put the school on lockdown while they investigated before learning other schools received the same type of calls.

Devils Lake Public Schools say the high school received vague, threatening calls from out-of-state. They worked with the police department to determine the calls were not credible threats.
