North Dakota is home to record number of geese

Bismarck, N.D. — North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s annual midwinter waterfowl survey has found a record number of geese in the state this year.

Last year’s number of 222,000 geese was blown out of the water by this year’s count of 300,000.

Experts say last year’s harsher start to weather drove the birds farther north earlier, while this year’s start to winter was more mild.

The purpose of the yearly survey is to help identify population trends in geese.
