North Dakota DOT considering new “SMART Corridor” along I-29

October 13, 2023

FARGO, N.D.–The North Dakota Department of Transportation will hold a public input meeting to discuss a new ‘SMART Corridor’ along I-29.

The DOT said the smart corridor would use cameras, sensors, and signage to help manage and monitor the interstate for weather, congestion, construction, and other changing conditions.

Some of the changes the DOT is proposing are variable speed limits between Fargo and Grand Forks, ramp meters similar to those in the Twin Cities at the I-29/I-94 interchange, bridge de-icing systems, alternate route systems, and electronic road closure gates.
