PIERRE, S.D.–SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The leader of the South Dakota House says impeachment proceedings into Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg will cost state taxpayers at least $87,000.

Republican South Dakota House Speaker Spencer Gosch says the House Select Committee on Investigation racked up the bills on attorney fees while it looked into the events surrounding a fatal crash with a pedestrian in 2020.

The committee recently issued a formal recommendation that the 45-year-old Ravnsborg should not face impeachment.

KWAT News Director Mike Tanner talked with Governor Noem about the $87,000 bill. She says it was completely unnecessary, because there was an attorney willing to do the work for free….

The full 70-member South Dakota House of Representatives meets April 12th to consider the House Select Committee’s recommendation that Ravnsborg not be impeached.
