Noem: National workforce initiative off to a strong start

June 27, 2023

PIERRE, S.D. – Governor Noem’s “Freedom Works Here” national workforce recruitment campaign has over 1,300 people who’ve applied to find career opportunities in South Dakota in the five days since it was launched.

The top three states for inquiries are California, Texas, and Florida.

Governor Noem says businesses like Terex in Watertown have reaped the benefits of South Dakota’s strong economy, but they still lack the workers that are critical to their continued success.

She says the over 1,300 people who have already shown interest in coming to work in South Dakota will be their solutions.

At 1.9%, South Dakota has the lowest unemployment rate in American history, but there are still 25,000 open jobs.
