Landowner rights panel discussion to be held during Watertown Winter Farm Show

January 25, 2024

WATERTOWN, S.D.–South Dakota Farmers Union is hosting a panel discussion on property rights during next month’s Watertown Winter Farm Show.

It’ll be held February 7 at 2 p.m. at the Codington County Extension Office, Classroom B.

During the panel discussion, property owners will learn about surveying and condemnation/eminent domain process and how to advocate for property rights.

Spink County Commissioner Suzanne Smith call it, “an important topic for property owners to learn more about because it’s your land. And if private entities can take your land for personal gain, what is next.”

Although surveying for a CO2 pipeline across South Dakota slowed when South Dakota’s Public Utilities Commission denied Summit Carbon Solutions and Navigator’s pipeline permit requests, Smith say the battle for property rights in South Dakota is far from over.
