January 22, 2024

PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley joined with 25 other Attorneys General in calling for the Federal Communications Commission to restrict the use of artificial intelligence by telemarketers.

In November, the FCC posted a Notice of Inquiry about the potential ability of AI technologies to “act as the functional equivalent of a live agent.”

Most robocalls made using artificial or pre-recorded voices are prohibited unless the calling party obtains the written consent of the consumer.
