WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Superintendent Dr. Jeff Danielsen issued a news release Tuesday with a simple message–if you’re attending a school district sporting event this winter, wear a mask, or stay home and listen to the game. or watch it online.
The policy applies only to high school activities, with an announcement forthcoming on middle school activities.
Danielsen says, “since we are bringing in members of the public, including visitors from out of town, we want them to feel safe attending Watertown activities.”
He went on to say, “we are taking this step to continue to allow our students to participate in as many activities as possible, and keeping everyone healthy is the best way to do this.”
Watertown Activities Director Craig Boyens says the school district wants to keep open attendance for winter sports, which means any and all fans can attend, but he says they may need to limit attendance if they don’t have cooperation from the public in wearing masks.
