HOWELL: School Resource Officer likely to be hired for Codington County’s rural schools (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–After months of talks, it appears a new school resource officer, or SRO position, for Codington County’s three rural school districts is on the cusp of getting final approval.

Sheriff Brad Howell says the SRO would rotate between schools in the Henry, Florence and Waverly-South Shore School Districts.

He tells KWAT news all three school boards have signed off on the idea…

Howell says his office will advertise the position, but it’s also possible the new hire could come from a deputy that’s already on his staff.

The Codington County Commission meets tomorrow (Tuesday) to approve their portion of funding this new position.
