WATERTOWN, S.D.–Shovel meets dirt this afternoon to mark the start of construction on a project in Watertown that’s been in the discussion stages for years.
A ceremonial groundbreaking is being held at 4 p.m. on Watertown’s new two-sheet ice arena.
It’s a $36 million project that will be built north of Hobby Lobby just off Willow Creek Drive.
Sales tax revenue bonds will be used to fund most of the construction costs. A local group has raised nearly $9 million as well.
Today’s groundbreaking will include the revealing of the naming rights sponsor, who’ll have their name attached to the facility.
