Governor Noem delivers budget speech to SD Legislature  (Audio)

PIERRE, S.D.– Governor Kristi Noem gave her budget address on Tuesday, which covers the remainder of Fiscal Year 2024 and Fiscal Year 2025.

She proposed a 4 percent increase in funding for state workers, health care providers, and schools.

The governor also proposed investing $6 million in a new Center for Quantum Information Science and Technology.

Governor Noem also talked about federal dollars that must be allocated in the next year.

The governor’s budget would also allocate $18.3 million to cover Medicaid expansion costs, $228 million for a new men’s prison near Sioux Falls, and $21 million for a new women’s prison in Rapid City.

The 2024 South Dakota Legislature gavels into session on January 9th.
