GLENWOOD, Minn.–Funeral plans have been announced for a western Minnesota deputy sheriff who was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a person for domestic assault last weekend.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office says a public memorial service for 44 year-old deputy Joshua Owen will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Minnewaska School Gymnasium in Glenwood.

Visitation will be held on Friday at the gym from 4 to 8 p.m., and on Saturday morning beginning at 9:30.

Owen was killed Saturday night during a shootout with the suspect in Cyrus, Minnesota.

He was a military veteran who’d been employed in law enforcement for a dozen years.

Another sheriff’s deputy and a Starbuck, Minnesota police officer were also shot, and sustained non-critical injuries.

The suspect was killed in the shootout. That person has not yet been identified.
