February 2, 2024

WYNDMERE, N.D.–Former Republican State Senator Jason Heitkamp of Wyndmere is running for North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Heitkamp will challenge Kirsten Baesler who has held the office since 2012.

Heitkamp says he will focus on higher test scores and graduation rates by getting back to the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic. He says students will also learn about health and fitness, school boards and administrators will be transparent, and he will work to stabilize educators’ retirement.

Heitkamp is a truck driver, retired farmer, and former financial advisor.
