Former Oglala Sioux Tribe president pleads not guilty to charges in federal indictment

PIERRE, S.D.–The former president of South Dakota’s Oglala Sioux Tribe has been indicted by a federal grand jury on six counts of Wire Fraud, one count of Larceny, and one count of Embezzlement and Theft from an Indian Tribal Organization.

Thirty seven year-old Julian Bear Runner appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta Wollman recently, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment.

Between 2019 and 2020, Bear Runner is alleged to have fraudelently submitted travel vouchers and received payment for travel he did not take.

His trial date has been scheduled for May 2nd. He faces up to 20 years in prison if he’s convicted.
