FARGO, N.D.–The governors of North Dakota and Minnesota have both ordered that state and US flags at state buildings and properties be lowered to half-staff through Saturday to honor

Fargo Police patrol officer Jake Wallin (pictured). The 23 year-old Wallin died in a shootout last Friday.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum says Wallin dedicated his life to serving his country and protecting the community and citizens from danger.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says Wallin was a dedicated member of the Minnesota National Guard who was respected by his family, friends and colleagues. The governors are urging residents, businesses and organizations to fly their flags at half-staff through Saturday.

Wallin’s funeral will be Saturday in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota. A memorial service is expected to be held in Fargo at later date.
