Fire west of Waverly destroys storage building, vehicles

WAVERLY, S.D.–There are occasions when a controlled burn gets out of control, and what should have been an unventful situation turns out badly.
Such was the case Thursday in Codington County when Watertown Fire Rescue was dispatched on a mutal aid request.
What was to be a controlled burn just west of Waverly got out of control, spreading to a storage building and several vehicles.
The South Shore Fire Department needed Watertown’s help to keep the fire from spreading even further.
That was accomplished, but not before the storage building and vehicles were destroyed.
