Fire jumps containment line, damages bulldozer in Brookings County

BRUCE, S.D.–A controlled burn jumped its containment lines and led to extensive damage to a piece of equipment Wednesday.

The fire between Bruce and Estelline at 464th Avenue and 199th Street was in a field with corn stubble.

Once it left its containment, a neighbor attempted to contain the fire with a Caterpillar dozer, which also caught fire.

The Bruce Fire Department responded and were able to get the fire out.

Damage to the dozer is estimated at $100,000.
