Canton lawmaker leading petition drive for special legislative session (Audio)

CANTON, S.D.–A group of South Dakota Legislators is joining landowners in calling for a special session of the legislature over CO-2 pipelines.

They don’t appear to have the two-thirds majority needed in both chambers to call a session.

That leaves Governor Noem as their only hope to call it.

The petition drive co-sponsor is District 16 Representative  Karla Lems (pictured) of Canton. She wants lawmakers to take another look at a bill to protect landowner rights…

Pipeline opponents say waiting for the regular session of the Legislature will be too late to deal with the issue.

The Public Utilities Commission holds hearings on one of the pipelines next week.
