WEBSTER, S.D.–The body of a Bristol woman missing since last month has been located after an extensive search.

Amy Dougherty left her home near Andover in blizzard conditions on the morning of December 23rd to drive to work in Bristol.

That’s the last time she had been seen or heard from until yesterday (Friday), when her sister, Amber Stanton of Watertown, confirmed on social media that Amy’s body was found in her vehicle in a body of water.

Investigators had been working under the assumption that Amy drove her black Chevy Trailblazer off the road in whiteout conditions, and into a slough.

In an interview with KWAT News two weeks ago, Day County Sheriff Ryan Rucktaeschel said dive teams had been focusing their efforts on a slough just west of Bristol, but poor ice conditions were making the search difficult…

Agencies that were involved in the search for Amy included the Day County Sheriff’s Office, Codington County Search and Rescue, and South Dakota Civil Air Patrol.

The Day County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release more details on the recovery of the body on Monday.
