BREAKING: Castlewood woman arrested in two year-old daughter’s death

CASTLEWOOD, S.D.–South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says a woman has been arrested and faces charges in the death of her two year-old  daughter in Castlewood.

Jorgan Eagle Star died at a Castlewood residence Tuesday morning.

Castlewood Ambulance, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office and Watertown Fire Rescue responded to the call of an unresponsive child. The girl was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Thirty year-old Josephine Raymundo of Castlewood was arrested on a charge of Felony Child Abuse. Ravnsborg says the manner of death is pending upon the results of an autopsy, although the initial investigation indicated evidence of ongoing child abuse.

During an initital court appearnce Thursday afternoon, Judge Robert Spears appointed Scott Bratland to defend Raymundo. 

Her bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety. 

A preliminary hearing was set for July 7th at 3:00 p.m. 

The case will be prosecuted by the Hamlin County State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation with assistance from the Watertown Police Department, South Dakota Child Protection Services and the Minnehaha County Coroner’s Office.
