Boyd native named University Transportation Center Outstanding Student of the Year

BROOKINGS, S.D. (News Release) — South Dakota State University graduate student and Boyd, Minnesota native Ted Sjurseth has been named the University Transportation Center Outstanding Student of the Year for the Mountain-Plains Transportation Consortium, a university transportation center formed by eight universities stretching from Utah to North Dakota.

He becomes the first SDSU student to receive the honor since 2014 and only the third overall. Chad Stripling received the award in 2009 and Brittney Ahrenstorff in 2014.

Sjurseth, a 4.0 graduate student in civil engineering, is researching the use of bridge couplers in high-seismic regions.

The Student of the Year Award will be presented at a virtual ceremony Jan. 6 coordinated by the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.
