WATERTOWN, S.D.–A unique benefit concert is coming up at the Goss Opera House in Watertown this week.

“Soul Music and Stories From The Ukraine War” will feature pianist and composer Calvin Jones, a Eureka, South Dakota native.

Jones wife Inga is from Ukraine. They were in that country working on the soundtrack for a documentary when Russian bombs began falling in February…

Next was a four day adventure to get out of Ukraine that included a 22 hour wait at a border crossing to get into Romania….

Jones will weave stories from war-torn Ukraine with music at Thursday night’s benefit concert.

Concert organizer Brad Johnson says proceeds will go to Freedom’s Haven for New Americans’ Workforce, to assist Ukrainian refugees and other immigrants in relocating to South Dakota…many of whom are looking for employment…

The concert is Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased here: https://www.thegossoperahouse.com/
