Watertown to work with Codington County on bridge replacement project (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council on Monday night gave approval to a memorandum of understanding to work with Codington County on a plan to replace the 14th Avenue Northwest bridge over the Big Sioux River.
City Engineer Heath VonEye says a major source of funding for the project would be a state grant that the county will be applying for……
VonEye says the city council approving the MOU will allow engineers to begin designing the new bridge, but actual construction would still be a few years away….
The new bridge would be wider than the existing one, and would include a bike path on the south side.
The total cost is estimated at $3.5 million, with the city sharing being about $300,000.
