Watertown police investigating accidental shooting

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown police are investigating an accidental shooting that sent one person to Prairie Lakes Hospital.

Captain Kirk Ellis says officers were called Monday evening to the 1800-block of Westminster Avenue on a reported weapons violation.

When officer got there, they discovered an individual had been shot with a .22 caliber firearm.
During the course of their investigation, police determined the discharge of the weapon was not intentional.

The injured person received non life-threatening injuries. They were not identified.

Any charges will be determined by the Codington County State’s Attorney’s Office.
