Watertown police arrest man for vehicle theft

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Police responded early this morning to a report that a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer had been stolen from a parking lot in the 10 block of Maple Street North

The vehicle had been left unsecured and running prior to it being stolen. Officers acquired a description of the suspect from surveillance video.

Around 5:35 AM, a male matching the description of the suspect was located sleeping in a business in the 1400 block of 4th Street Northeast

The suspect was identified as Wyatt Grey from Waubay. Officers located a single Chevrolet vehicle key in his possession. A subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle had been crashed into a mailbox and left on scene in 3100 block of 14th Avenue Northeast.

Grey was charged with Theft of a motor vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving while having a Suspended Driver’s License.

Grey was being held at the Codington County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
