WATERTOWN, S.D.–A painful decision for the Watertown Parks and Recreation Board was made Tuesday, but it was one that was expected.

They’ve voted unanimously to keep the Aquatic Center along Highway 212 closed for the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parks and Recreation Director Terry Kelly said previously that CDC guidelines for opening an outdoor pool in the midst of the pandemic are very strenuous.

Opening the pool for a short season of roughly two months would not make much economic sense either.

Several other South Dakota cities are keeping their outdoor pools closed for the summer too, including Pierre.
