WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue responded to a pair of fires on Veteran’s Day.

The first call came over the noon hour on a report of a cornstalk and farm equipment fire.

The field was near the intersection of 454th Avenue and 176th Street, just south of Watertown.

Farmers had been chopping cornstalks when the stalks caught fire and started multiiple fires in the field.

Crews extinguished the fires in the field and on the stalk chopper. They were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

The second fire came in just after 8:30 Saturday night of a pickup on fire at 14th Avenue and 14th Street Southeast in Watertown.

The truck was engulfed in flames when crews arrived. They used a hydraulic spreaker to access the locked door of the pickup so they could get into the engine compartment.
