WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council pumped the brakes on spending more money to develop the new downtown park called Community Foundation Plaza.

Monday night’s meeting agenda included a $153,000 contract with Confluence Design Group of Sioux Falls for “administration services” as the park gets developed.

Right out of the box, Councilman Glen Vilhauer addressed some sticker shock with that price…..

Councilman Mike Danforth echoed those same sentiments, using the words, “outlandish” and “atrocious” in describing the contract price…

Councilman Colin Paulsen brought up the idea of renegotiating the contract with Confluence….

That’s exactly what the council voted to do. They’ll hold a work session next week, and could vote on a renegotiated price with Confluence at their February 22nd meeting.
