Turkey barn fire in central Minnesota kills an estimated 7,000 birds

SAUK CENTRE, Minn.–An estimated 7,000 turkeys are dead after a large barn fire in Stearns County Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. about a fire in Sauk Centre Township.

When they arrived, a turkey barn was fully engulfed, the owner reporting there were 7,000 birds in the 64 foot-by-200 foot barn.

Investigators believe the fire started in the mechanical room.
