Tornado outbreak in western Iowa turns deadly

MINDEN, Ia.  – Friday’s outbreak of tornadoes across western Iowa has turned deadly.

A Minden man died from his injuries after being trapped in his basement during Friday’s storm. A family member says Nicholas Ring was taken to an Omaha hospital once he was freed. He died Saturday night.

The storms flattened a portion of the town of about 600 people. Some homes had been pulled from their foundations, torn apart from the ground.

Damage was particularly expansive on the east side of Minden, were about half of homes there were severely damaged.

Three others in Minden were injured. All of them were treated and released.
