WATERTOWN, S.D.–South Dakota has not been as aggressive as other states in the roll out of solar energy farms.

Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson tells KWAT News the PUC has granted only a couple of permits for solar projects so far…

Nelson says when it comes to the permitting process for solar farms, and the concerns that are raised, it’s different from permitting wind farms…

California leads the country in solar energy output, followed by Nevada and Hawaii.

South Dakota ranks near the bottom, along with North Dakota and Alaska.
