South Dakota hospitals facing blood shortage this winter
January 18, 2024
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.–There’s a blood shortage in South Dakota right now. Donations are off the mark in the winter because of the weather and illnesses.
Local hospitals are on alert to have enough transfusion supplies for health needs.
According to Avera Health experts, it takes up to 3,0000 units of blood a week to meet demands. That makes this time of year is critical for blood donations.
Officials are encouraging South Dakotans to go here: https://www.lifeservebloodcenter.org/to find their closest donation center.
