SIOUX FALLS,, S.D.–While the Department of Corrections announced searching for contraband through the Easter weekend, little has been said following two days of unrest last week at the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

But an internal memo is providing insight on what’s to come.

A letter from the director of prisons to all DOC staff indicates changes will be happening soon. It details concerns and an investigation from the Office of the Inspector General that resulted in the suspension of communication features on tablets in the prison.

Once phone call privileges from the tablets are reinstated for inmates, offenders will be limited to three calls per day, the calls will be limited to 20 minutes in length, and the calls can be made either on the tablet or from wall phones.
