WATERTOWN, S.D.–The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is assisting the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office in an unattended death investigation involving a child.

The investigation was first confirmed last week with Roberts County Sheriff Barry Hillestad.

He wouldn’t comment further, directing all questions to DCI.

In an email to Watertown Radio News, spokesman Tim Bormann confirms an investigation is taking place. He says an autopsy on the child was performed on July 13th.

Bormann says there may be more information available once “all testing is completed,” but as a rule, he says, DCI, “does not comment on ongoing investigations.”
