Sombke re-elected to another term as South Dakota Farmer’s Union president

December 5, 2023

ABERDEEN, S.D.–Conde area farmer Doug Sombke has been elected to a 10th term as president of the South Dakota Farmer’s Union, making him among the longest-serving presidents of the state’s largest agricultural organization.

Sombke’s re-election was made official at the recent Farmer’s Union’s 108th annual State Convention.

Sombke says breaking up packer monopolies, reinstatement of Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling and strengthening South Dakota’s property rights laws will be some of the issues he’ll be focusing on in his next term.

Aberdeen area farmer Jeff Kippley was chosen to serve his first term as Vice President.

Kippley decided to put his name on the ballot after Lake Preston farmer Wayne Soren made the decision not to run for another term. Soren has served as Vice President since 2010.
