WATERTOWN, S.D.–Areas of northeast and central South Dakota have been placed under a Winter Weather Advisory (purple shaded areas) for Wednesday night thru Thursday morning.

National Weather Service forecaster Ryan Leake says a fast-moving, but potent low pressure system will move through.

It will bring precipitation, first in the form of rain, then changing to snow. Temperatures will be dropping, and winds will really start to pick up…

Leake says snow amounts will likely be a couple of inches or less, but travel problems are a possibility…

The Huron, Mitchell, Brookings and Sioux Falls areas are not under the Winter Weather Advisory, but are under a High Wind Warning. Southwest wind gusts to 60 mph are expected.
