September 22, 2022

WATERTOWN, SD – A comprehensive search for Lake Area Technical College’s next leader has begun, following the retirement announcement from President Mike Cartney last week. Cartney’s retirement is effective December 31, 2022.

Lake Area Tech and Watertown School District officials announced today that a Presidential Search webpage is now live on Lake Area Tech’s website at www.lakeareatech.edu. The webpage outlines the president’s job description, provides an overview of the college, and describes the application process.

“We are now accepting applications for our next dynamic, inspirational, and forward-thinking president who will lead us into the next exciting era at Lake Area Technical College,” commented LuAnn Strait, Director of Student Services, Marketing, & Public Relations at Lake Area Tech. “Continuing the commitment of previous leaders, our new president will be a champion for student success, academic integrity, faculty support, and industry partnership.”

The next president will be the sixth leader in Lake Area Tech’s 57-year history. Throughout its history, the priority of the college has remained the same: student success.

“Lake Area Tech has a strong reputation for offering students successful pathways to high-demand careers,” Strait said. “The successful presidential candidate will be an innovative leader who will collaborate with our faculty and key stakeholders to continue providing our students the highest level of academic programs and support.”

Applications for the position will be accepted through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022.
