Rapid City mayor uses weekly COVID-19 update to debunk so-called “herd immunity” (Audio)

RAPID CITY SD — In light of this week’s protests in Michigan by those who demand the immediate cessation of social distancing, Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender used his weekly COVID-19 update Wednesday to debunk so-called “herd immunity.” It’s the competing theory, that exposing everyone to COVID-19 will end the pandemic faster….

Allender says the extreme spike in COVID-19 cases would kill a lot of people by totally overwhelming the limited health care and hospital resources….

Allender says a high, fast peak would require 5,800 hospital beds in west river alone. That’s three times the number of beds available.
